PREPARATION
IV Sedation / Hospital Admission Preparation
We will provide you with written information about preparation required for your surgery.
It is important that you complete and bring in your IV sedation consent form and Anaesthetist Questionnaire (provided at your consult) on the day of admission to surgery.
If you are going into Hospital please ensure on-line admission forms are completed at least a week prior to your surgery date.
A member of our staff will contact you at least one working day prior to your procedure, or sent you a text message to confirm hospital admission time, fasting time if undergoing IV Sedation and any other requirements for your surgery.
There may also be a review or change to your medication you are currently taking. In some cases you will need an anaesthetist appointment pre your surgery to manage your medications and if this is required our staff will organise this appointment for you.
If you are having IV Sedation or General Anesthetic, it is vital that you do not eat, drink, or chew gum before your surgery. You will be advised when to have your last meal and drink which is typically 6 hours prior to surgery or in some cases 24 hour clear fluid diet and a 6 hour fast. If you eat or drink after that time, your operation may be delayed or cancelled.
You will be provided with post-operative instructions on discharge from the hospital or IV sedation rooms. Also, following IV Sedation or Hospital admission, you will need to arrange for a carer to accompany you from the hospital and to supervise you for 24 hours after your operation.
